About

me in technicolor, thanks to Photo Booth

Hi, my name is Amanda Etches-Johnson and this is my blog. I write mostly about emerging tech, social media, web development, user experience, and what it all means for libraries. That’s me up there. Sometimes my hair is pink, sometimes it’s just brown.

I am the User Experience Librarian at McMaster University Library, which means I get to spend most of my time exploring, developing, testing, and implementing technologies to make our users’ online experience better. It’s a pretty awesome gig. I sometimes talk about the projects I’m working on for my library, so I should mention that all opinions expressed here are mine and not my employer’s. And all opinions expressed in the comments are yours. That is, unless they’re mine.

I’m also an adjunct faculty member at the Faculty of Information & Media Studies at The University of Western Ontario where I teach a course on libraries & social media.

Finally, here’s a formal-ish bio I use for publications & such.

About blogwithoutalibrary.net

Here’s the story behind the name of this blog.

Also, if you have any interest at all in what libraries are doing with blogs (and related technologies, like RSS), you might want to visit the Blogging Libraries Wiki. And, if your library has a blog that isn’t on the wiki, go ahead and add it!

Thanks for visiting.
